Our Veterinarians

Dr. Nicolas Spaccarelli
Owner, Veterinarian
Dr. Nicholas Spaccarelli grew up in the Hudson Valley, where he enjoyed hundreds of acres of forest right in his back yard. Animals were a part of his life from day one—he spent time with everything from cats and dogs to chickens, rabbits, chinchillas, and pigeons. Dr. Spaccarelli’s early experiences caring for animals made one thing very clear: a career in the veterinary world was the perfect path for him. Now, he’s proud to care for both pets and their owners as the owner and operator of Stone Cottage Veterinary Hospital!

Dr. Spaccarelli attended veterinary school on the island of St. Kitts in the Caribbean, and even taught there for four years. He purchased Stone Cottage Veterinary Hospital in January of 2016, and has been tending to the needs of the area’s pet owners and animal companions ever since. Around the hospital, Dr. Spaccarelli likes the hands-on nature of surgical work and seeing a pet walk out of the clinic healthier and happier than when they arrived thanks to the hard work of his team. He’s also passionate about maintaining a family-like atmosphere here at the hospital that is constantly supportive, nurturing, and fun.

In his free time, Dr. Spaccarelli loves staying active in the outdoors—surfing, stand-up paddle boarding, fishing, hiking, and traveling are a few of his favorite activities—and cooking and trying new cuisines. He and his beautiful wife, Megan, are proud to raise their two daughters, Mackenzie and Madison, around many of the same animals that he grew up with; the family recently added Sally the tortoise to their ranks!
Dr.. Sara Martens
Associate Veterinarian
Dr. Sara Martens had always been fascinated by the world of animal medicine, but she wasn’t sure that she wanted to pursue a career in the field at first. After earning her Master’s degree in molecular biology, she decided to give veterinary medicine a try—Dr. Martens didn’t even have to complete her first semester of veterinary school to know that it was the perfect choice! She hasn’t looked back since, and is now a proud member of Stone Cottage Veterinary Hospital’s talented team of veterinarians.

Dr. Martens hails from Rochester, Michigan and spent multiple summers during her undergraduate studies volunteering for a number of animal-focused organizations in Florida. She suspects that it was these experiences that first demonstrated to her how rewarding a career in animal care could be! It wasn’t long before Dr. Martens started working at a pet clinic near her home back in Michigan, further cementing her desire to learn more about the world of veterinary care. That’s when she decided to apply for veterinary school! Within six months, Dr. Martens found herself on the Caribbean island of St. Kitts to study animal care at Ross University’s School of Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. Martens first worked with the Stone Cottage Animal Hospital family in 2014, and was thrilled to rejoin the clinic team in March of 2018 as an Associate Veterinarian. Medically, she’s fond of cytology work and loves the near-instant results she can achieve after studying a sample. Dr. Martens’ favorite part of her job, though, is connecting with the pet owners of the area and getting to know each and every one of their animal companions.

When she’s not here at the clinic, Dr. Martens can be found running, downhill skiing—she raced during her high-school years, and even coached downhill ski racing for several years afterward!—and spending time with her own pets at home. She has a dog, Worf, and five cats named Gus, Night Crawler, Pancakes (adopted from the Caribbean during her veterinary school years), Downey, and Harry.
